remedial massage therapy

Perth Allied Health Clinic

Remedial massage therapy is a complementary therapy with the purpose of treating muscle and connective tissue that is damaged, knotted, tense or immobile.

Remedial massage therapists are trained to locate and repair damaged areas of the body and speed up the body’s own healing processes. The pressure applied in this healing treatment can either be strong and deep or gentle and shallow, depending on the problem.

It is common for trigger points to develop in overused or tight muscle resulting in pain radiating to other parts of the body. Remedial therapists will trace the original reason for the pain, tackling both the cause of the problem and the symptoms.

An assessment is done prior to beginning work on the effected area with emphasis on addressing not just the tight area but any areas locally that may be effecting the complaint.

Both hands on massage techniques, stretching techniques, needling and cupping may be used by your therapist. Remedial massage can stimulate the blood supply, make joints more mobile, and help to repair damaged tissues. The aim of therapy is to balance the length, tone and tension of muscles, tendons and fascia.

Easing and stabilising the muscles can improve conditions such as headaches, abdominal pain, low back pain and sciatic pain.

Some health problems that remedial therapists commonly see include sporting and dance injuries, muscle cramps, whiplash, muscular atrophy, arthritic pain and frozen shoulder.
